Circular economy, internationalism, and fashion industry’s textile waste – Aura’s dress at the Independence Day Reception

Circular economy, internationalism, and fashion industry’s textile waste – Aura’s dress at the Independence Day Reception

This year, Aura wore a creation by the Safiyaa brand at Finland’s Independence Day Reception. The London-based fashion label draws attention to the problem of textile waste through its circular economy approach. The circular economy represents a comprehensive transformation of the economy, consumption, and ways of thinking. We do not need to own everything; instead, the sharing economy as well as durable materials, product design, and recyclability are taken into account in everything.

Finland is a pioneer in the circular economy of textiles. In Finland, chemical recycling methods are being developed, textile waste is collected separately for recycling, and Finnish expertise in developing recycling technologies is among the best in the field. Old clothing and bio-based raw materials are used to produce new, ecological textile fibers. At the same time, textiles can be reused in applications such as composites and insulation materials.
