Member of the European Parliament Aura Salla presented her demands to the Commission regarding the upcoming Bioeconomy Strategy in a petition letter. The letter, signed by a total of 10 Members of the European Parliament, was sent to Executive Vice-President Teresa Ribera on July 11, 2025. In the letter, MEP Salla highlights the importance of the EU Bioeconomy Strategy in fully acknowledging the role of the forest-based value chain and supporting coherent regulation, targeted investment, and cross-sectoral collaboration.
MEP Salla believes that the upcoming Bioeconomy Strategy plays a key role in advancing the EU’s climate objectives, industrial competitiveness, and rural development. This is even more so, in forest-rich Member States. The forest-based sector is a key enabler of climate-smart innovation and contributes to Europe’s energy security and industrial resilience.
The forest-based bioeconomy reduces reliance on imported fossil-based raw materials, and enables the domestic production of essential goods. Consequently, it enhances resilience in times of global disruption, while simultaneously supporting the EU’s broader goals of open strategic autonomy.
The upcoming Bioeconomy strategy must ensure that the bioeconomy sector reaches its full potential. A robust and forward-looking strategy will accelerate the EU’s climate transition, and empower forestry regions to lead in sustainable industrial transformation.
