Member of the European Parliament Aura Salla spoke about the EU’s long-term budget in the European Parliament plenary session in Strasbourg on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.
MEP Aura Salla emphasizes that the EU and its budget must focus on the biggest challenges facing Europe. The budget should add value to the entire continent with excellence-based, cross-border investments, not fragmented local policies and national envelopes.
Given the urgency of the war in Europe, the focus must be on defense investments as well as innovation, research, and high-tech. Additionally, MEP Salla highlights the importance of ensuring the availability of reasonably priced energy and continuing the fight against the climate crisis.
MEP Salla stresses that the upcoming budget should reduce bureaucracy and actively support the completion of the single market. Furthermore, the budget must guarantee sufficient resources to enforce EU legislation, such as tackling illegal imports from countries like China.
